Boost Your Podcastâs Hype With Social Media!
Building an audience organically on social media is the best free way to grow your podcast. Despite what you may currently believe, it is absolutely possible. Yes, even for you đ. All it takes is a little bit of extra work & the right strategy.
Most podcasters take it easy when it comes to social, and only use their pages to notify existing listeners of new episodes. And typically itâs with the bare minimum of a boring audiogram or basic story post. This will never grow the audience or community youâre looking for.

Your followers watching your audiograms
What really moves the needle is consistent valuable content, aligned with your show. This helps you build more of a connection with your existing audience by remaining top of mind but also can be the hook that encourages new potential listeners to check out your show.
Coming up with great content can be difficult and is a topic for a future newsletter. Today we want you to focus on improving your trailers. Trailers are a great way to promote an upcoming episode to your audience. Studies have shown that listeners are much more likely to invest their time into a full episode of a podcast after listening to a trailer. These are so effective that the massive show Diary of a CEO employs a former editor for a major motion picture studio, just to handle their trailers!
Donât worry, you donât need to be the next Steven Spielberg to make a solid trailer. Creating a trailer for your podcast is really simple, all you really need to do is compile a montage of clips from the upcoming episode and structure them in a way that builds anticipation and intrigue that can only be relieved from watching the whole episode. Check out the Diary of a CEOs trailers for some loose inspiration and to capture the principles & then create something your own way unique to your audience and show.
Use Social Media To Tag Your Way To The Top
You never want to neglect the power of tags and hashtags. Anyone who tells you that hashtags are dead is a #Liar.
Using a branded hashtag can be a great way to separate your social media posts from others like yours. Fans also enjoy using branded hashtags because it gives them a way to actively contribute to the conversation on whatever social media platform youâre using (and you should be using all of them).
A branded hashtag can be as simple as â#YourPodcastNameâ and it can honestly create a direct way for your fans to interact with you and other like-minded listeners.
On top of the branded hashtag, you should also add subject-related hashtags to your posts on social media. This will help reach new listeners that happen to be searching for keywords related to your hashtag. Platforms also use hashtags to categorize content and decide who to recommend new content to. So you make their job easier by using highly relevant tags across your content.
On that same note, you should also be directly tagging every guest that the post involves. This not only shows respect to your guest, which you should always be doing, but it also provides a way for their audience to potentially discover your podcast. Itâs a win-win.
Get On Board With The Short Form Takeover
Going viral with your podcast has never been easier thanks to the world of short-form content. With more and more people watching YouTube Shorts and TikToks every day, your chances of going viral across not one but ALL platforms that you post on have significantly risen as long as youâre smart enough to take advantage of it.
Short-form content has taken over the internet and is a great way to pull people into your show by giving them a little taste of what theyâre missing. Itâs as simple as taking what you think was one of the most interesting moments from your most recent episode and getting it ready to upload across all platforms.
Thereâs a reason why creators that are already massively successful like Mr. Beast use short-form content, and thatâs because it helps them reach new audience members.
The other upside to short-form content is that a lot of it is found by audience members just by them scrolling through their feeds. They donât have to go out of their way to search your show or any specific clips because if done right, the algorithm should be recommending them to people for you.
In other words, short-form content is an all-win scenario because the only extra effort it takes is to cut a clip out of an already existing episode that you have and edit it a bit.
Finding Your Community On Social Media Is Key
Participation in and amongst the podcast community is a key way to get your show put on the map and earn some credibility among other podcasters and viewers, and in 2023, thereâs no better place to engage than on social media.
Engagement doesnât have to stop at your own fanbase either. As a podcaster, you should always be willing to reach out and speak with other podcasters to see what theyâve learned and apply that to your own show to help you progress.
As competitive as the world of podcasting can seem, itâs actually a very communal place. By joining a community like a Facebook group or a Subreddit you immediately open yourself up to a world full of discussion and questions that you may have never even thought to ask.
In the end, other podcasters are your allies, and earning credibility amongst them is an important step in your growth. This might lead to cross-promotions or guest spots that you might not have even thought were possible before reaching out, which is a direct path to growing your podcast.
đ„Podcast Nut Tip of the Week: Donât Overuse Your Call-To-Actionđ„
As a podcaster, you should understand the importance of a call-to-action, but surprisingly a lot of shows arenât utilizing them properly. Most people assume that if you are hosting an hour-long podcast, you should place more than one call-to-action throughout the episode in order to remind your guests to subscribe or follow you.
Odds are though, the bulk of your audience is coming from people who have already subscribed and will likely get tired of hearing you asking them to do it over and over again. In some cases that might even lead some listeners to stop tuning in altogether.
Instead, what you should do is work on a single SOLID call to action per episode that only needs to be heard one time. This way it acts more as a reminder for new listeners to join your community, but doesnât become bothersome to fans that youâve already pulled in.
