đ„ How Podcasters are Turning Laughs Into Cash
Itâs almost mind-blowing how a little bit of comedy splashed into a Podcast can be the difference between it failing or becoming massively successful.
All it takes is a little bit of uniqueness and the proper format to really set yourself apart and grow a loyal following. It also doesnât have to be hard (even if you donât think youâre funny).
If you donât believe that, check this out đ
đ Comedy Can Save Your Podcast đ
Using comedy to spice up your Podcast is like having the best food at the barbecue. It makes people want to come back & tell their friends! People love to laugh, and thatâs just a fact.
So even if you arenât creating a Podcast that falls into the Comedy genre, a joke scattered here and there can go a long way in connecting with your audience.
Believe it or not, Comedy is actually the most listened-to genre in all of Podcasting with a study done by Buzzsprout reporting that at least 22% of people who listen to Podcasts on a regular basis prefer comedy.
Using comedy in your Podcast can help you reach a larger audience, but most importantly can also help personalize your podcast a bit and make it more YOUnique. Which keeps people coming back!
Now, this doesnât mean to turn your Podcast into an hour-long stand-up special, but if you can find a natural way to slide something that might even just make YOU laugh, youâll be surprised at how much the audience will enjoy that.
Popular Comedy Podcasts Worth Checking Out:
Two Bears One Cave: Join popular comedians and real-life best friends Tom Segura and Bert Kreischer as they discuss LITERALLY everything, from their personal lives to whatâs going on in the world. The dynamic between the two of them is so natural, and they can get their audience laughing by simply laughing amongst themselves and it really makes you feel like youâre in the room with them and a part of the conversation.
SmartLess: Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes all come together with guests to share their personal experiences in a very organic way that oftentimes leads to shared laughter. Itâs a great example of how to create a Podcast that isnât necessarily about comedy but can still be comedic which can be very appealing to new and returning listeners.
Itâs not too late to get into Comedy Podcasting either!
Although you might think the market is flooded considering the number of people that listen to Comedy Podcasts, that just means that thereâs even more room to grow!
Even creators who are already successful in different fields of their lives have recently signed deals to release new Podcasts in the genre.
Take Amy Poehler for example, the SNL Alumni just sold not one, not two, but THREE seasons of a Comedy Podcast to one of the leading studios in the industry, Cadence13. Variety reported that the first season is slated to release later this year with the entire concept of the podcast being to make fun of other popular comedy podcasts. So be on the lookout for âSay More With Dr. Sheilaâ
Also understand that when adding comedic aspects to your Podcast, always take the format into account.
Having the proper format is key and can even be ruined by something as simple as not having the right amount of hosts to fit your style.
Is It Better To Have One or More Hosts On A Podcast?
Honestly, it depends. Both can be great!

That might not be the answer you were expecting, but itâs an important one to understand.
When it comes to hosting a podcast, no hosting format is outright better than the other. Pick a format that works with the style of podcast that you're creating for listeners.
While some styles of podcasts work really well with multiple co-hosts, like the conversational style, others are better suited for a single host, like storytelling podcasts.
That being said, there are practically endless amounts of formats when it comes to making and hosting a podcast, and thatâs because once you start growing your show, youâll find your own groove and end up building your own format specific to your podcast.

đș Podcasting News of the Week: A Rough Time For Podcasts At NPR
National Public Radio has always had its hand in the Podcasting industry and has been in the business of creating Podcasts ever since they launch âNPR Podcastsâ back in November 2005.
Well, this past week they announced that they are currently in the process of restructuring the cost and spending structure of the entire company, and that has sadly led to the cancellation of multiple popular projects.
According to multiple reports, including this one by Market Watch, NPR is calling it quits on four of its podcasts.
This news comes only a month after the company was forced to announce that they were laying off approximately 10% of staff members.
The four Podcasts that have been axed are âLouder Than a Riot,â âEveryone & Their Mom,â âRough Translation,â and âInvisibiliaâ the popular science storytelling podcast that premiered in 2015 that told stories about the âintangible forces that shape human behavior.â
A few key members of NPR, including the CEO John Lansing, has blamed the decline in Ad revenue as their reasoning for these layoff and Podcast cancellations.
Tweets of the Week
Jack Appleby shared his opinion this week on the mess that is LinkTree and the fact that it can not only be confusing to maintain as a creator but also annoying for fans who are looking for a specific link.

He brought up a great point too which is that as a creator there should be a single place that you want to drive all of your traffic to, that way your content is easily accessible and easy to follow.
On another note, popular promoter and Podcast Marketer, Jeremy Enns thinks you should change how you view podcast growthâŠ

Simply relying on a format or gimmick that might be working for one very popular Podcast isnât a good way to help yours grow.
The reason why the 0.00001% of those outliers were successful is that they bring something different to the table and thatâs what a good audience will come back to see or listen to.
Donât simply copy what other people are doing that works. In order to grow your Podcast make sure to bring quality content to your listeners in a way thatâs uniquely you.
And remember, above all else. Keep being awesome.
Thatâs all for today, see you next week!
